Nasdaq comp'

Dow

NYSE comp'

Trans

Summary

Four indexes settled net higher for the week, with one net lower.

The Transports lead the way higher, with the Nasdaq trailing.

The Nasdaq comp' broke a new historic high of 10824. but then reversed powerfully lower.

More broadly, the Dow and the Trans have joined the SPX and Nasdaq comp', as all four are trading above their respective monthly 10MA. That just leaves the NYSE comp'.

VIX'daily3

Summary

US equities opened in chop mode, and remained that way across the day, for what was a perfect example of a choppy OPEX.

Volatility was ground lower into the weekend, the VIX settling -8.3% at 25.68.

Meanwhile, this morning's mail...

It seems every London resident is being sent fliers to offer advice on money.. or rather, the lack of. As even the flyer notes, 1.9M (of 9.0M) London residents were already 'struggling' prior to the China virus. Now, its likely at least double that.

For the record, yours truly is debt free, which these days, might even be considered financial terrorism... in the twilight zone.

Finally, your views...

Its a clear split between those who believe a vaccine is coming... and those who don't.

Almost two thirds of you don't have faith that Moderna will be have vaccine.

Weakness ahead of OPEX

US equity indexes mostly closed on a weak note, sp -10pts (0.3%) at 3215. Nasdaq comp' -0.7%. Dow -0.5%. The Transports settled +0.5%.

sp'daily5

VIX'daily3

Summary

US equities opened broadly weak, but sp'3198 was all the bears could manage, before the market slipped into moderate chop mode.

Meanwhile...

The latest jobs data showed another improvement, 1.300M vs 1.310 prior. The problems will begin in August though, with the CARES $600 unemployment support set to expire. Right now, an extension appears unlikely.

The afternoon saw considerable chop, with a closing hour mini ramp to 3220, and settling at 3215.

Volatility picked up... if only to 29.29, the VIX settling +0.9% at 28.00. Friday OPEX will lean to broad chop.
