Subdued end to the week

US equity indexes closed a little mixed, sp +2pts (0.1%) at 2978. Nasdaq comp' -0.2%. Dow +0.3%. The two leaders - Trans/R2K, settled -0.6% and -0.4% respectively.

US equities opened a little higher, but the bulls became stuck at sp'2983, with the market flirting around breakeven for much of the day.

Meanwhile... (from Thursday evening)...

... and Trump continued in early morning...

... just another tweet, from within the twilight zone.

Powell appeared in Switzerland...

.. but it turned out to be a non-event.

Volatility was ground lower, with the VIX settling -7.8% at 15.00. S/t outlook offers basic cooling to the secondary downside gap of sp'2924/06. Any price action <2900 looks overly difficult ahead of the Sept'18th FOMC.
