It was a broadly bearish February for world equity
markets, with net monthly changes ranging from -6.4% (China), -5.7% (Germany), -4.5% (Japan), -4.3% (USA), -2.9% (France), +0.5% (Brazil), to +0.7% (Russia). M/t outlook into late spring/early summer remains bullish.
Lets take our regular look at ten of the world equity markets
*special note: Stockcharts no longer cover the FTSE indexes - such as the UK or Italy. I will substitute the former with Greece.
--
USA - Dow
The mighty Dow saw a net Feb' decline of -1120pts (4.3%) to 25029, with an intra low of 23360, effectively bouncing from around the key 10MA.
Best guess: s/t weak, but resuming upward into the late spring/early summer. First target is the January historic high of 26616.
Keep in mind the next giant fib' number 26702. Any price action >26800s would be decisive, and bode for far higher levels across the next few years. Such an outlook does not preclude the main market being (briefly) whacked by -15 to -25% this year. Further, >26800s would be indirectly suggestive the sp'500 will eventually break >3047. I do NOT expect to see such a break until another major corrective wave this summer/early autumn.
Equity bears still have little to tout unless a bearish monthly close. For yours truly, that would equate to a monthly close under the monthly 10MA, currently at 23567, and rising by around 340pts each month. Considering the recent power of the late Jan/early Feb' down wave, I am open to a bearish monthly close. However, as based on many issues - not least earnings and econ-data, I'd expect another rebound into/across 2019. Price action from 1998 and 1987 would be valid scenarios.

Germany – DAX
The economic powerhouse of the EU, saw the DAX settle -753pts (5.7%) to 12435. Despite the spike from an intra low of 12003, the DAX still settled under the key 10MA. Further, note the MACD (green bar histogram) cycle has turned negative. This does merit as a provisional 'alarm bell'. March has begun on a very bearish note.
Japan – Nikkei
The BoJ fuelled market settled -1030pts (4.5%) at 22068, having recovered from a spike floor of 20950, around key support of 21k. From July onward, key rising support - from 2012, will be around 21k. Its something rather important to keep in mind.
China – Shanghai comp'
The Chinese market had a very rough month, and despite recovering from a low of 3062, still settled -221pts (6.4%) at 3259, notably below the 10MA. Much like the German DAX, this does merit as a provisional alarm bell, and is only negated with a move back above the Feb' high of 3495.
Brazil – Bovespa
The Brazilian market was notably strong, breaking a new historic high, settling higher for the ninth month of ten, +440pts (0.5%) at 85353. With a recent break above multi-year resistance, a grander push to 100k is very much on the menu. Higher commodity prices (inc' oil and nat' gas) would really help.
Russia - RTSI
It was a wild month for Russian equities, with the RTSI seeing an intra month low of 1177, but breaking a new multi-year high of 1339, settling higher for the seventh month of eight, +8pts (0.7%) at 1289. Broadly bullish, with big target of psy' 1500.
France – CAC
A very mixed month for the French market, seeing an intra low of 5051, but recovering to settle -161pts (2.9%) at 5320. Note the spike from what is the old core downward trend. March has started on a bearish note, but 5K should hold. Soft upside target is upper monthly bollinger in the 5700s.
Spain – IBEX
A powerfully bearish month for Spanish equities, settling -611pts (5.8%) to 9840. Price structure from May 2017 could still be argued is a giant bull flag. That would be provisionally confirmed with a break >10543, which would offer a challenge of multi-year resistance of 12k.
Australia - AORD
The Aussie market was very resilient, settling -29pts (0.5%) at 6117. The AORD is comfortably holding above old declining trend. The 6200/300s look a pretty easy target within a few months, not least if commodities lean upward.
Greece - Athex'60
The economic basket case of the EU - Greece, saw the Athex net lower by -43pts (4.9%) to 835. The m/t trend from Feb'2016 remains intact. There are of course a great many 'systemic' economic problems in Greece, none of which have been fixed. For the moment, things are quietly ticking along, but when the next EU wide recession hits, the Greek people are in for a world of even more hurt.
--
Summary
A broadly bearish month for world equities, with 7 indexes significantly lower, 1 moderately weak, and 2 moderately higher.
The Chinese and German markets are flashing provisional alarm bells, having both settled below key aspects of support.
The Russian and Brazilian markets are very resilient, primarily as commodities prices are still leaning upward.
The US market is still mid/long term bullish. For the Dow, that would only provisionally change with a monthly close under the key 10MA. To be decisive, rising trend (from Feb'2016), currently around 23k.

Swings into the weekend
US equity indexes closed somewhat mixed, sp +13pts at 2691 (intra low
2647). The two leaders - Trans/R2K, settled u/c and +1.7% respectively.
VIX settled -12.8% at 19.59. Near term outlook threatens one further wave lower to 2630, with the key
Feb' low of 2532 looking comfortably intact.
sp'daily5
VIX'daily3
Summary
US equities opened broadly lower, with an early low of sp'2647. There was a significant rally that continued all the way into the late afternoon. The daily gain of 0.5% is arguably inconclusive, as to whether we have a completed washout wave from 2789. I'm guessing... no.
The VIX saw a very mixed day, swinging from the 26s to settle in the 19s.I'm still concerned of one final push to 30/34, before broad cooling across March/April.
--
A bearish week: sp'weekly
A net weekly decline of -56pts (2.0%), as the weekly MACD cycle increasingly favours the equity bears. For now, the Feb' low of 2532 still looks secure.

Thorny Thursday
US equity indexes closed significantly lower, sp -36pts (1.3%) at 2677.
The two leaders - Trans/R2K, settled -0.5% and -0.3% respectively. VIX settled +13.2% at 22.47. Near
term outlook offers capitulation around sp'2630, which would make for a
61% retrace of the 2532/2789 wave.

VIX'daily3
Summary
I've never actually crunched the numbers, but having watched this nonsense for over a quarter century, I have long noticed that Thursday's tend to favour the equity bears. There are a few reasons for this, not least that downward pressure can take some days to build.
Today was an especially thorny day in market land. Pre-market moderate declines were negated by the open, but then the sellers appeared, only for the market to bounce from 2699. The bounce was very shaky, and the market rolled over again, and then very significantly imploded into the afternoon. The following sure didn't help...
... tariff chatter from Trump really upset the mainstream, and almost everything - except the Steel and Alu' producer stocks, swung significantly lower. The afternoon break <2690 saw equities spiral lower, with an afternoon low of 2659, notably under the 50% fib' retrace.
With equities lower for a third day, the VIX swung upward from a morning low in the mid 19s, to the mid 25s, and settling in the mid 22s.
Best guess: further weakness to sp'2630, as VIX 30/34 will be technically viable. On no realistic outlook do I expect the recent sp'2532 low to be broken under.
