This post will be the last under the online moniker of 'Permabear
Doomster'.<br />
<br />
The name was always overly quirky, and directional in nature, even
though I really wasn't particularly that way, especially from summer
2013 onward, back when the SPX decisively broke above the 2000/2007
double top of the 1500s.
<br />
<br />
Since then, I've endeavoured to offer as balanced a view and
outlook as possible. Understandably, some of you have found it
difficult to deal with someone called 'PD', whilst also touting a m/t
bullish outlook.
<br />
<br />
Its September 5th, 2020, and its time for a name change.<br />

Minor notes...<br />
<br />
The 'Permabear Doomster' blog/site will be left up forever, or as
long as Alphabet/Google, maintain the servers.
<br />
<br />
The secondary pages of 'Fair value stocks', 'Buygoldsilverusa',
and 'MARCON' will remain active, at least for the moment.<br />
<br />
As I'm using the same Blogger account for 'Trading Sunset', as I
did for 'Permabear Doomster', the original 'author' for 'Permabear
Doomster' posts, will now appear as 'Trading Sunset'.
<br />
<br />
I will be using Disqus on all three new sites.<br />

Summary<br />
<br />
The day began with the US President appearing in pre-market...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CTTFDXMGDyo/X1JSzUcX_hI/AAAAAAAB3BU/Nz6DPJ1SdUAA3008_ecqjm9fmMUfEHoZQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/trump%2Bjobs%2Bsept4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="300" data-original-width="744" height="258" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CTTFDXMGDyo/X1JSzUcX_hI/AAAAAAAB3BU/Nz6DPJ1SdUAA3008_ecqjm9fmMUfEHoZQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/trump%2Bjobs%2Bsept4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
US equities opened moderately positive, but the gains were shaky from the start. The Nasdaq quickly spiraled, and the rest of the market duly followed.<br />
<br />
This morning's messy open no doubt annoyed the maximum number of Robinhood and Wallstreetbets lunatics who are still resolutely 'buying the dip'. Mr Market managed to not only suck in the more careless, but then to washout even the more resilient bulls.<br />
<br />
For those using margin, it was not the best of days...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

The afternoon saw choppy upside from a low of 3349 to 3455, and settling -28pts (0.8%) to 3426. Volatility printed a new cycle high of 38.28, cooling back to settle -8.5% to 30.75.<br />

<br />
<br />
Summary<br />
<br />
US equities opened on a weak note, despite better than expected jobs data.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dfhpk3LxAGg/X1FQXzSaNkI/AAAAAAAB3A8/y0u7GMRxN_ozUCci83Qgq3Qyrn_aP_hEQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/jobless%2Bdata%2Bsept3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="718" data-original-width="1092" height="420" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dfhpk3LxAGg/X1FQXzSaNkI/AAAAAAAB3A8/y0u7GMRxN_ozUCci83Qgq3Qyrn_aP_hEQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/jobless%2Bdata%2Bsept3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Nasdaq lead the way lower, spiraling into the morning, and pulling the rest of the market powerfully lower, including the more resilient Dow and Transports.<br />
<br />
The US President was unquestionably rattled, blaming poll data for the equity swing lower...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W8PeE-rjmFQ/X1E5xe4I6iI/AAAAAAAB3AE/qLqgkLZDbDE91DEqyRsAlfzaXw0_ilgVwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/trump%2Bmarket%2Bsept3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="268" data-original-width="750" height="228" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W8PeE-rjmFQ/X1E5xe4I6iI/AAAAAAAB3AE/qLqgkLZDbDE91DEqyRsAlfzaXw0_ilgVwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/trump%2Bmarket%2Bsept3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Ironically, (from last night)...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8PveOtSgpA8/X1E-5j3YinI/AAAAAAAB3Ag/0ippSONTcUYL1c1UDZZznAztmZUGxwD7QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/trump%2Bmarketdow%2Bsept3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="268" data-original-width="730" height="234" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8PveOtSgpA8/X1E-5j3YinI/AAAAAAAB3Ag/0ippSONTcUYL1c1UDZZznAztmZUGxwD7QCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/trump%2Bmarketdow%2Bsept3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
.. and that tweet sure didn't age so well.<br />
<br />
The late morning saw a bounce, but that was fully reversed, not helped by Fed official Evans, touting further QE.<br />
<br />
The afternoon saw considerable chop, breaking a new low of 3427, with a choppy bounce into the close.<br />
<br />
Volatility picked up, with the VIX printing 35.94, and settling +26.5% to 33.60.<br />

<br />
Summary<br />
<br />
US equities opened on a positive note, with the SPX and Nasdaq comp' breaking new historic highs. VIX held up though, and it was a subtle early warning of a mini washout... not least within some of the key tech leaders like AAPL and TSLA.<br />

<br />
<br />
After the morning mini washout, the afternoon saw the market claw back upward, with the usual two - SPX & COMPQ, breaking new hist' highs in the closing hour. There is simply zero sign of a s/t ceiling/turn. <br />
<br />
Volatility notably held up, with the VIX settling +1.7% to 26.57. <br />

Summary<br />
<br />
September and the final third of 2020 began on a bullish note, with the SPX and Nasdaq comp' breaking new historic highs. Zero sign of a s/t ceiling/turn, with a broad series of higher highs and higher lows. Volatility was in cooling mode, settling in the 26s. <br />

<br />
Earnings were better than expected, with Zoom literally zooming to the proverbial moon, with an intra high of $478.00, and settling in the $457s. Overall price action was impressive, with the stock largely consolidating after the early high. <br />

<br />
Summary<br />
<br />
The last day of August was comprised of just minor chop. The Dow was a laggard, whilst the Nasdaq continues to lead. The SPX and Nasdaq comp' both broke new historic highs. VIX notably picked up. <br />
<br />
<br />
Two thirds<br />
<br />
With August having settled... two thirds of 2020 has elapsed. For most... that could be seen as a positive. After all, 2021 will be better, right? Next year couldn't possibly be worse... right? The truth is that 2021 could make 2020 seem like one giant Disneyland party. <br /><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aXu7Imh7FL4/X00tx4plxAI/AAAAAAAB28k/8w2QRsPjM7sq4HfxHTy7XrPIelBd7R00ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/tsla%2BTWTR%2Baug31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="246" data-original-width="534" height="294" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aXu7Imh7FL4/X00tx4plxAI/AAAAAAAB28k/8w2QRsPjM7sq4HfxHTy7XrPIelBd7R00ACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/tsla%2BTWTR%2Baug31.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The same basement dwelling unwashed sheep chasing AAPL and TSLA on the stock splits, are perhaps the same collective who will be first in line for their (no longitudinal studies) vaccines. Good luck with that.<br />

weekly gains ranging from +3.5% (Trans), +3.4% (Nasdaq comp'), +3.3% (SPX), +2.8% (NYSE comp'), to +2.6% (Dow). <br />
<br />
<br />
Lets take our regular look at five of the main US indexes<br />
<br />
sp'500<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xZj9Gq82II8/X0lqS2DcYiI/AAAAAAAB24M/wziK1QtRYCItXVCdrePR_HyeC1uNo7KDwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/spx%2Bw%2Baug28.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xZj9Gq82II8/X0lqS2DcYiI/AAAAAAAB24M/wziK1QtRYCItXVCdrePR_HyeC1uNo7KDwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/spx%2Bw%2Baug28.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The ninth weekly gain of eleven, breaking a new historic high of 3509, and settling +110pts (3.3%) to 3508. Absolutely zero sign of a short/mid term top. Momentum has now decisively surpassed the February high. First major supports are within the upper/mid 3200s.<br />
<br />
<br />
Nasdaq comp'<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L3JdOhV7fi8/X0lq6FagnSI/AAAAAAAB24U/TtDJ4xqRLAQH--Jp2maJJQtjFl3Hy0tMwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/nasdaq%2Bw%2Baug28.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L3JdOhV7fi8/X0lq6FagnSI/AAAAAAAB24U/TtDJ4xqRLAQH--Jp2maJJQtjFl3Hy0tMwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/nasdaq%2Bw%2Baug28.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A fifth consecutive net weekly gain, breaking a new historic high of 11730, settling +383pts (3.4%) to 11695. I would note this week's settlement, which is above the upper weekly bollinger, for the first time since early January. <br />
<br />
<br />
Dow<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TydnMu6DW9U/X0lrSm48XUI/AAAAAAAB24c/7ak0st0Lkq0_vWgY0324LnD0x1dPKOeywCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/dow%2Bw%2Baug28.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TydnMu6DW9U/X0lrSm48XUI/AAAAAAAB24c/7ak0st0Lkq0_vWgY0324LnD0x1dPKOeywCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/dow%2Bw%2Baug28.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The mighty Dow climbed for the third week of four, settling +723pts (2.6%) to 28653. The index lagged the broader market, primarily due to natural selling of components PFE, RTX, and XOM, set to get the kick - as of Monday August 31st, to be replaced by AMGN, CRM, and HON.<br />
<br />
<br />
NYSE comp'<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ncCFzhGpQ3c/X0lrv0VEQEI/AAAAAAAB24o/qVpN4CwQmxcf0f0hIuZ71TpiOhovJKE6ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/nyse%2Bw%2Baug28.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ncCFzhGpQ3c/X0lrv0VEQEI/AAAAAAAB24o/qVpN4CwQmxcf0f0hIuZ71TpiOhovJKE6ACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/nyse%2Bw%2Baug28.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The master index climbed for the ninth week of eleven, settling +361pts (2.8%) to 13170.<br />
<br />
<br />
Trans<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R3Rt3RtoXwA/X0lr4nf8AvI/AAAAAAAB24s/ITU1RpAQEBoPAYZ8yWDcRGZr5gjkwUG8ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/trans%2Bw%2Baug28.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R3Rt3RtoXwA/X0lr4nf8AvI/AAAAAAAB24s/ITU1RpAQEBoPAYZ8yWDcRGZr5gjkwUG8ACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/trans%2Bw%2Baug28.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Higher for the seventh week of nine, settling +381pts (3.5%) to 11322. I would note the Jan'2020 high of 11359, and the Aug'2018 historic high of 11623.<br />
–<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Summary</b><br />
<br />
All five US equity indexes settled net higher for the week.<br />
<br />
The SPX and Nasdaq comp' broke new historic highs. <br />
<br />
More broadly, all fives indexes are currently trading above their respective monthly 10MA, as the m/t trend is bullish.<br />

<br />
All five of the US equity indexes settled net higher for the week.<br />
<br />
The Transports lead the way higher, with the SPX and NYSE comp' a little laggy.<br />
<br />
The Nasdaq comp' broke a new historic high.<br />
<br />
All five indexes are currently trading above their respective monthly 10MA, with the m/t trend outright bullish.<br />

<p>US equities opened in chop mode, with the SPX printing an early low of 3286, and reversing upward to break a fractional new multi-month high of 3303. The afternoon saw further tedious minor chop, but with a mini ramp in the final few minutes to a new cycle high of 3306.<br /></p>

changes ranging from +10.9% (China), +8.3% (Brazil), +7.7% (India), +3.9% (South Africa), +2.4% (USA), +1.8% (Russia), +0.9%
(Australia), +0.8% (Hong Kong), +0.1% (Germany), to -2.6% (Japan).<br />
<br />
<br />
Lets take our regular look at ten of the world equity markets.<br />
<br />
USA - Dow<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yMsxtkM3GBc/XySJ_vUjT1I/AAAAAAAB2u4/L4AGYNpTGNUsdEQc2pTP8zwhEBmg-Tl4gCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/usa%2Bdow%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yMsxtkM3GBc/XySJ_vUjT1I/AAAAAAAB2u4/L4AGYNpTGNUsdEQc2pTP8zwhEBmg-Tl4gCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/usa%2Bdow%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The mighty Dow climbed for a fourth consecutive month, settling +615pts (2.4%) to 26428. The July high of 27071 was notably below the June intra high. The July settlement was above the 10MA, bringing the m/t trend back to outright bullish. Momentum ticked upward, but remains negative, and at the current rate, will turn positive just before year end. Next resistance is the Feb'2020 historic high of 29568, but that looks out of range, before a multi-week cooling wave. <br />
<br />
<br />
Germany – DAX<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W_ix9297QB0/XySKSJVvsjI/AAAAAAAB2vA/lZUckCnJjy8eBPaV8LO2QrD107pNS1xRACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/germany%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W_ix9297QB0/XySKSJVvsjI/AAAAAAAB2vA/lZUckCnJjy8eBPaV8LO2QrD107pNS1xRACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/germany%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
German equities struggled, the DAX settling +11pts (0.1%) to 12313, although that did make for a second monthly settlement above the 10MA. The June and July candles are rather spiky on the upper side, and indicative of s/t bullish exhaustion. Momentum will be prone to turning positive in August. <br />
<br />
<br />
Japan – Nikkei<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eW6QtPtQPTk/XySd_1C6WeI/AAAAAAAB2wY/wFP3aNvqNB0cc2ZJhghnYFT_SzlEdjStACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/japan%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eW6QtPtQPTk/XySd_1C6WeI/AAAAAAAB2wY/wFP3aNvqNB0cc2ZJhghnYFT_SzlEdjStACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/japan%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Japan was the laggard this month, settling -578pts (2.6%) to 21710, notably back under the 10MA. The June and July candles were both spiky on the upper side, indicative of s/t bullish exhaustion. The s/t outlook is bearish, with first support at key price threshold of the 21000s.<br />
<br />
<br />
Brazil – Bovespa<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5xJ5r6gZsP4/XySKqMHPEaI/AAAAAAAB2vI/4hOQKukVp8UwcaXN1cmh_PiRPQWcARFnwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/brazil%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5xJ5r6gZsP4/XySKqMHPEaI/AAAAAAAB2vI/4hOQKukVp8UwcaXN1cmh_PiRPQWcARFnwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/brazil%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Brazilian equities climbed for a fourth consecutive month, the Bovespa settling +7856pts (8.3%) to 102912, notably back above the 10MA. There is no real resistance until the January historic high of 119k.<br />
<br />
<br />
Russia - RTSI<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fBuwhXQBeQQ/XySKtGYYBSI/AAAAAAAB2vM/IFUTG8_QbPEymRjrEwIrqARAqzla2-D5wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/russia%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fBuwhXQBeQQ/XySKtGYYBSI/AAAAAAAB2vM/IFUTG8_QbPEymRjrEwIrqARAqzla2-D5wCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/russia%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Russian equities battled upward, settling +21pts (1.8%) to 1234. Whilst this was a third monthly settlement above key price threshold of the 1200s, it was still under the 10MA.<br />
<br />
<br />
India – SENSEX<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UQdo8RkLHzY/XySK8xywQsI/AAAAAAAB2vY/DRSQ0D5eFvg38vhpZhFRNLhk5t-KM3PQACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/india%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UQdo8RkLHzY/XySK8xywQsI/AAAAAAAB2vY/DRSQ0D5eFvg38vhpZhFRNLhk5t-KM3PQACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/india%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Indian equities climbed for the third month of four, the Sensex settling +2691pts (7.7%) to 37606, the first settlement above the 10MA since January. The July candle is a little spiky, as the market is due a multi-week cooling wave.<br />
<br />
<br />
China – Shanghai comp'<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BP9tg_Sfhnk/XySLGlDkSsI/AAAAAAAB2vc/MeNT93HlJugWmLPJPtdWTCsemaCRWpkwQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/china%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BP9tg_Sfhnk/XySLGlDkSsI/AAAAAAAB2vc/MeNT93HlJugWmLPJPtdWTCsemaCRWpkwQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/china%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The Chinese market lead the way higher in July, settling +325pts (10.9%) to 3310. The July candle is notably spiky from around key price threshold of the 3400s, with an intra high of 3458. China bulls need a decisive break >3500 to have confidence of broader upside into year end, whilst bears need to break below the March low of 2646.<br />
<br />
<br />
South Africa – Dow<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wpj8YX2skYA/XySeRgO_UEI/AAAAAAAB2wg/Nm6op0kkdqcaZJgLuOzGbA5S36uQ6K47ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/SA%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wpj8YX2skYA/XySeRgO_UEI/AAAAAAAB2wg/Nm6op0kkdqcaZJgLuOzGbA5S36uQ6K47ACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/SA%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The South African market climbed for the third month of four, settling +63pts (3.9%) to 1695, which was the first settlement above the 10MA since Dec'2019. Higher gold prices are certainly helping, for what is one of the top ten producer countries. <br />
<br />
<br />
Hong Kong – Hang Seng<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TXR0EtNzS-w/XySLTXInu_I/AAAAAAAB2vg/aIXIYZNk1WgmQcfrQeEc2O5gMGgIoFhMwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/HK%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1250" height="614" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TXR0EtNzS-w/XySLTXInu_I/AAAAAAAB2vg/aIXIYZNk1WgmQcfrQeEc2O5gMGgIoFhMwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/HK%2Bm%2Bjul31.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a pretty wild month for Hong Kong, seeing a high of 26782, but settling +168pts (0.7%) to 24595. The July spike high was a distinct fail at m/t descending trend, and notably settling under the 10MA.<br />
<br />
<br />
Australia – AORD<br />

<br />
<b>Final note</b><br />
<br />
July was broadly bullish for world equity markets, not least for the US, which saw the Nasdaq break a new historic high. For now, there is near zero sign of a short/mid term ceiling/turn.<br />
<br />
Despite the attempt to reopen, there remain monstrous economic problems, as a result of the 'response' to Corona. Note the emphasis on response. It wasn't the Corona that destroyed tens of millions of businesses, it was directly due to the lockdown policy of various national governments. It is sometimes darkly amusing to see the mainstream media hacks - not least those on CNN, FOX, and CNBC, talk about how Corona destroyed the world economy, when the fact is that it was actually due to the chosen response.<br />
<br />
Staying on the matter of Corona. Do you hear the ticking clock right now? Way back in late January - when it became clear what was coming, I mentioned there would be a 'window of opportunity', running from June to September. We're already half way through, and I will merely add that you might choose to use the time... wisely.<br />
<br />
August itself should offer some market drama. The June/July candles for many world equity markets are indicative of s/t bullish exhaustion, as a multi-week cooling wave is overdue.<br />
<br />
Then there is the issue of the Fed. Having already bought corp' bonds, it should be clear they will eventually resort to buying equities. I'm currently unsure as to whether they will be stupid enough to follow the dark path of the BoJ and ECB - with NIRP, but regardless... sooner or later, Print Central will be buying stocks, not just in the giant Dow components, but the mid and small caps. <br />
<br />
If you think life in the twilight zone can't get any more insane, well, just wait until early November. <br />

<br />
Summary<br />
<br />
US equities opened broadly weak, especially pressured via lousy econ-data, and European markets.<br />
<br />
The following does make for a historically bad econ data point...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Santelli of CNBC, highlighting a historically bad GDP print</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Print'1 for Q2 GDP came in at -32.9%, verses -5.0% for Q1. Revisions could easily be +/- 5%, perhaps even 10% difference. In any case... its the most horrific data print we've ever seen. Things can only improve from here.<br />
<br />
The SPX swung from a morning low of 3204 to 3250 in the late afternoon, but with most indexes still settling on the weaker side.<br />
<br />
Volatility was mixed, the VIX spiking to 28.29, but settling +2.7% at 24.76. The SPX candle was a red reversal, with a mirroring black VIX candle, and they lean s/t bullish equities, at least for part of Friday.<br />

<br />
Summary<br />
<br />
US equities opened in chop mode, leaning on the weaker side. The SPX saw a morning low of 3221, and then upward into the afternoon to 3243.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile...<br />
<br />
It was day'1 of the FOMC. Clearly, no policy change can be expected. However, its probable the CEO of Print Central - Powell, will reiterate his support for further fiscal stimulus. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wargames (1982)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
No doubt the Fed is ready, willing, and able to buy another $1trn or more of US t-bonds. I have to wonder what the Fed version of the WOPR is projecting for the US election, and into 2021? <br />
<br />
The late afternoon saw a moderate cooling wave. Volatility picked up into the close, the VIX settling +2.8% to 25.44. Wednesday afternoon should offer some drama, and who doesn't like that?<br />

Summary<br />
<br />
US equities opened in chop mode, but did claw upward into the late afternoon. Volatility was itself subdued, the VIX settling -4.3% to 24.74. <br />
<br />
<br />
Meanwhile...<br />
<br />
Gold broke above the Sept'2011 historic high of $1923s, printing the $1941s. Today's cooler dollar in the DXY 93s certainly helped.<br />
<br />

<br />
Its not surprising to see Barrick Gold as the leader... and the leader is it, if not in price (still to break new historic highs), but underlying fundamentals. <br />

<br />
<b>Summary</b><br />
<br />
Four US equity indexes settled net lower for the week, with one net higher.<br />
<br />
The Transports lead the way lower, with the NYSE comp' resilient.<br />
<br />
The Nasdaq comp' broke a new historic high.<br />
<br />
More broadly, all five US equity indexes are currently trading above their respective monthly 10MA.<br />

<br />
<br />
<b>Looking ahead</b><br />
<br />
A very busy week is ahead, with the first look at Q2 GDP, and another truck load of earnings. We can expect further Corona related headlines, especially in terms of the vaccine candidates. Its also likely we'll see some further 'developments' in US/China relations.<br />

Its likely that Powell will again state the Fed's support for further fiscal stimulus, and that the fed will do 'whatever is necessary' to bolster the US economy (or rather... the equity market).<br />

The latest weekly jobs data wasn't pretty, 1.416M vs 1.307 (revised) prior week. The run of improvement has concluded, as the economic recovery has stalled for obvious reasons. The notion of a V-shaped recovery was always nonsense. Now its a case of how rough the rest of the summer will be, and whether society itself devolves into even deeper levels of mass hysteria this autumn. <br />
<br />
The afternoon saw a very significant swing lower - with tech leading the way, the SPX printing 3222. and settling at 3235. <br />
<br />
Volatility swung from a low of 23.60 to settle +7.2% to 26.08. The daily SPX candle is of the bearish engulfing type, with the daily VIX candle of the bullish engulfing type. Those are not to be dismissed lightly. <br />

Summary<br />
<br />
US equities opened broadly higher, helped by news the EU bureaucrats had agreed on a €1trn package, although that is spread across SEVEN years. Considering the US and EU populations are rather similar, the EU package is pitiful, relative to the trio of US stimulus bills.<br />
<br />
Nasdaq broke a new historic high, but did see an opening reversal, and despite a few rally attempts, tech was notably weak across the day.<br />
